Handbook of Lighting Design

Wide interest has developed in light and lighting, not least because the growing awareness of architectural quality has given rise to an increased demand for good architectural lighting. The Handbook of Lighting Design covers the basic principles and practice of architectural lighting. It exists as much as a teaching aid, e.g. for students of architecture, as a reference book for lighting designers.

  • Black and white sketches of ceiling luminaires and various lighting scenes.
  • Black and white sketches of rooms with different wall patterns and exhibition spaces.

In lighting technology a number of technical terms and units are used to describe the properties of light sources and the effects that are produced.

  • Black and white sketches of incandescent bulbs, physical formulae and light distribution curves.

Every lighting installation comprises an arrangement of luminaires – on the ceiling, on the walls or in the space. This arrangement is not perceived as such, but is organised into forms or groups in accordance with the laws of gestalt.
